Please follow the instructions in the Pinbox Discord since the troubleshooting requirements are changing all the time and will be updated constantly. In this two part tutorial on creating a pinbox model, I will show you how to go about modeling the main item from the frame to the pins, then I will conclude with showing you all how to animate it in part two. Okay, start off by creating a rectangle, with length: 34.5, width: 24 and corner radius: 2.6. Move it to XYZ: 0,0,8.5. Change the rectangle's Interpolation to 12, put an Extrude Modifier on the rectangle and set it to Height: 2. Convert to an Editable Poly, and name this object "Plastic Lid" (Fig.01). Select the top and bottom polygon, and use the Inset tool with a value of. 5. Now delete the large remaining polygon. Create an Arc with the two endpoints being the ends of the curved edge of the plastic lid, and increase the radius so it's out away from the geometry. Rename the arc "Corner Center Point". This will be used for selection purposes in a minute (Fig.02).Now the next several steps are about creating the geometry for the hole that the corner posts will make in the plastic. You can just have the corner posts penetrate the Plastic Lid object, but if you want to be super picky and see the interaction of the surfaces correctly in the render then go on to Step 3. If it's not that big a deal, don't delete the polygons after you inset, and skip to Step 17. Really, this is a very tiny detail and will only be noticeable if you are looking really closely at the render. If you skip to Step 17 you will notice that your plastic lid lacks a lot of the geometry shown in the example, but don't worry about it.ģ. Go to the Reference Coordinate System (RCS), which is located on the main toolbar just to the right of the Scale tool. Drop down from View to Pick. With your activated mouse cursor, pick the Corner Center Point and now you'll see that name in the RCS Window on the Main Toolbar (Fig.03).Ĥ. Select the edges of the inset curved edge and choose your Scale tool.

and just about everyone has a Boss tuner pedal. If a simple buffer solves the electric guitar problem is that really a problem? The Radial stuff is used by thousands of people in thousands of scenarios every day because their stuff works and sounds good in all those various situations. aside from pure crystal clean tones I've never done it. One thing that's not very common is to plug an electric guitar straight into a DI box. projectors & iPods, drum machines, basses with high output active electronics, standard passive P basses, acoustic guitars with all sorts of electronics, zillions of keyboards etc At some point or another I've connected anything you could dream of. In real world use just about anything with a 1/4 plug gets shoved into a DI box. There's always some loss or at least alteration with a DI box. The Radial JDV and Little Labs Redeye come to mind, the latter providing one helluva REAMPing solution as well. If for extra high impedance / adjustable impedance is a priority, there are any number of tools designed to accommodate. They are (generally) more concerned with input distortion than loading, as with active acoustic pickups, active basses, and line level audio sources, it is legitimately a much greater (and more common) occurrence. Personally, grabbing a suitable buffer in the studio to minimize pickup loading - a Boss tuner will do - is a small compromise to make, in order to have the build quality, and sound, and functionality that the Radial products bring to the table. Radial makes great tools, that in the audio world, are very reasonably priced in light of quality.Ī manufacturer’s design decisions might not align with one’s wants or needs. If I do, I buffer before the input or after the thru. (Just hold a mirror tile inside each “square” as you go to make sure it’s gonna fit before you glue the moulding into place.)Īfter all the moulding is attached, give the whole thing another quick coat of spray paint, so it looks like this…Īfter the spray paint is dry, use wood glue and a “cut tack” (ours came from Lowes) to attach a plastic mirror rosette to each “cross-section”. That way you can make sure each mirror tile is gonna fit once the wood glue is dry. Helpful hint: Use one of your mirror tiles as a guide as you glue your ALL of your pieces of moulding into place. (I colored them tan so you could see which ones I was talking about.) Then we cut and attached the short, horizontal pieces of moulding. Your “mis-measurements” will sort of disappear if everything is all painted oil-rubbed bronze.Īfter that, we cut and attached the vertical pieces of moulding. That last step is an important step, because if your measurements aren’t exactly right, you’ll be able to see raw particle board or plywood in the small gaps between the mirrors and the moulding. I actually sprayed the entire front side of it with spray paint, but I stopped taking photos after I snapped that last one, so I don’t have a picture of it. Then Kevin mitered the ends of the ones for the edges of our mirror, and I glued them down (with wood glue) and sprayed them with more spray paint… Next, I sprayed all four pieces of the moulding we bought with Rust-o-leum’s “oil-rubbed bronze” spray paint… We did this step at this particular time because I thought it would be easier to add the 1″x4″s, the picture hangers, and the wire before we attached the mirrors to the front side. We attached them first with Liquid Nails, and then with 1-1/2″ long wood screws. So that we could have the option of hanging the mirror vertically, the next thing we did (and this is a totally optional step, by the way) was add two 1″x4″ pieces of wood to the back side of it. Once that additional piece was securely attached, we used our circular saw to cut our “newly-sized rectangle” down to be the right size width-wise. (PS- For extra stability, we squeezed a line of Liquid Nails between the two pieces of particle board before we added the bracket.) Since our mirror needed to measure 27″ high, we had to attach an additional piece of particle board to the top of it to make it the right height. You can find 2’x4′ pieces of particle board (or any other type of plywood for that matter) at almost any home improvement store. We chose particle board because it was the cheapest option. Once you’ve determined the exact overall size of your mirror, you can decide what type of wood you’d like to use as the back of it. Sorta like this…ĭo the same thing to determine the height. (Did I just hear you groan?) To determine the exact width of your mirror, you take the combined width of each mirror tile and each piece of moulding. Once you have your moulding, and your mirror tiles, you’ll need to do some math. We bought four, 8′ lengths of it, and that was just the right amount for our mirror. The bottom side of it is completely flat, and the top side of it has slightly rounded edges. We used some plain, 3/4″ wide, wood moulding. The next thing you’ll need to decide is what kind of moulding you want to use around the edges, and in between each of your mirrors. They’re located in the candle section of store because they’re normally used to make tabletop centerpieces. They were regularly $3.99 a piece, but we scored all 15 of ours during a 40% off sale. We got ours at Hobby Lobby, and they measure 8″x8″. Once you know that, you can shop for your mirror tiles. The first thing you’ll need to decide is approximately how big you want your mirror to be. We recorded a short video about it (which you’ll find at the bottom of this post) but before you watch it, I’m gonna walk you through the process using photos & drawings. Today we’re gonna attempt to show you how we made the Pottery Barn-style mirror we used on our mantel. This is the width of one narrow element, bar or space. Nominal Widthīar code specifications refer to a symbol's nominal width. Within the three families of nine fonts, the overall height:width ratio varies as well, similar to the C128Tools fonts. The Code 39 specification allows for a wide:narrow ratio within the range of 2:1 to 3:1. The wide:narow ratio is 2:1, 2.5:1, and 3:1 respectively. You may have noticed that there are three groups of nine fonts: Narrow, Regular, and Wide. The fonts in C39Tools are a bit more complex. It's a series of non-proportional stretches in the x axis. The five different fonts differ in their overall height:width ratio. This is the case with the Code 128 fonts in C128Tools. Format the same string in both fonts at 36 points and the bar codes will both be 1/2" tall but the second bar code will be twice as long. Why? Because the aspect ratio (width:height ratio) of the two fonts are different./p>įor example, each character is X units wide but in font B each character is 2X wide. But bar code A may be 25% wider than bar code B because it was made using a different font. Two symbols may both be 1/2" tall because the text was formatted at 36 points. The Code 128 and Code 39 bar codes you make with C128Tools and C39Tools can vary in width even when the same chunk of text is formatted at the same point size. Font You Choose Determines the Width of the Barcode When you go from 24 points to 36 points the symbol will be 50% wider as well as 50% taller. More on that later.īefore we move on, let's all agree that formatting a piece of text at a larger point size increases the width as well as the height. In the case of C39Tools and C128Tools, the specific font you use determines the symbol's width. If you know how tall the space is you know at what point size to format the text. In some cases you have a space you're trying to fit a bar code into. This is true across the Azalea product line with the exception of the Half fonts in UPCTools. Format it at 18 points and it will be 1/4" tall. There are 72 points per inch so if you format a string at 36 points the bar code will be 1/2 inch tall. When you format a string of text in an Azalea font, the bars will be as tall as the point size you specify. Barcode fonts impose a unique perspective on bar code geometry.įont Point Size Determines the Height of the Bars Text can be formatted at a wide range of point sizes. Text is inherently editable and malleable. Yes, images are usually hard to modify or change once created. Historically bar code geometry has been described in language that assumes bar codes of a fixed size that aren't easily changed. One can use either text or graphics to display and print a bar code On one level using fonts to make bar codes is no different than "painting" a JPG, TIF, or EPS file. Text formatted in a symbol font but text nevertheless, not a graphic image. Azalea Software looks at a bar code and sees a chunk of text. When some people look at a bar code they see an image, a picture. They take on new significance when dealing with scalable fonts like Azalea Software's barcode software product line. Symbol height and width, density (characters per inch, cpi), the nominal width, and aspect ratio are all interrelated variables. Several factors act in unison to determine a given barcode's physical characteristics. Cygwin may let you run your bash shell scripts but it will NOT run Apache, Docker, or other real ELF-binaries and Linux apps. It's great, but it's important for you to know what the difference is. Cygwin is a large collection of GNU and Open Source tools which provide functionality similar to Linux on Windows - but it is not Linux. WSL2 ships a real Linux kernel and runs in on Windows. Here's an important point that should make more sense now that you have these terminals - Your choice of shell doesn't and shouldn't dictate your choice of terminal application.Īside: WSL and WSL2 (the Windows Subsystem for Linux) are a complete local Linux (or many Linuxes) that run on Windows 10. The shell generates output and passes it back to the terminal for display. ShellĪ shell is the program that the terminal sends user input to. In the software world a Terminal and a Console are, for all intents, synonymous. Technically the Console is the device and the Terminal is now the software program inside the Console. A Console in the context of computers is a console or cabinet with a screen and keyboard combined inside it. Consoleįolks in the mid 20th century would have a piece of furniture in their living room called a console or console cabinet. It doesn't actually process your input, it doesn't look at your files or think. It's really good at displaying textual output. When we refer to a Terminal in the software sense, we're referring to a literal software version of a TTY or Terminal. When that computer replies, you'll see the typewriter automatically type on the same paper. When you type on it, you're seeing the text on a piece of paper AND inputing that text into a computer. Rather than a screen you'd have a literal typewriter in front of you. TTY or "teletypewriter" was the first kind of terminal. You'll often hear "dumb terminal" when referring to a text-based environment where the computer you are sitting next to is just taking input and showing text while the real work happens at the other end in a mainframe or large computer. The word Terminal comes from terminate, indicating that it's the terminating end or "terminal" end of a communications process. Let's start with a glossary and clarify some words first. Can I use conemu with PowerShell Core or do I need to use Windows Terminal?.I don't need WSL for bash, I use Cygwin. Why would I use Windows Terminal over PowerShell?.This means it must have near parity with Windows PowerShell in terms of compatibility with modules that ship with Windows.I see a lot of questions that are close but the questions themselves show an underlying misunderstanding of some important terms. In the announcement of v7 Microsoft wrote "A big focus of PowerShell 7 is making it a viable replacement for Windows PowerShell 5.1. On the other hand a lot of new features & cmdlets & modules first appeared in v6 and v7 and all new features are going to be developed for PowerShell Core only. And not only that but there are also entire modules missing. Even in the Windows version of PowerShell Core 6 a lot of cmdlets that were found in v5 are missing. The first version of PowerShell Core (ver5.1 bundled with Windows Server 2016 Nano Server) was a fork of Windows PowerShell 5 that didn’t have all its features. So this should be the choice for those who want to have the latest and greatest capabilities. PowerShell Core AKA PowerShell v6,7,…: It's multiplatform(Linux, Mac, Windows) and it's the product that will get all the new features going forward. Microsoft is to only provide bug fixes and security updates to Windows PowerShell. PowerShell AKA Windows PowerShell, PowerShell Desktop, PowerShell v1 to v5: It is, and will continue to be a very stable platform that is not going to be significantly modified or gain new features. Microsoft seems committed to close the feature gap between PowerShell Desktop and Core. So for these features, you still need PowerShell Desktop v5.1. Howeve, some features of Desktop PowerShell, still haven't find their way in Core v7. PowerShell Desktop v5 will only receive bug fixes and all future development will happen on Core. TLDR: PowerShell Core is a multi platform fork of PowerShell Desktop v5. Having said that, Lumo does have a third key element to its gameplay, and that is exploration. There's not really any combat to speak of, with the exception of a staff that can be illuminated to scare away spiders. The puzzle-solving and platforming make up the majority of one's time with Lumo. Instead of just having players push crates around like in most other games, many of the crates in Lumo actually come to life, become infatuated with the player character, and chase them around the room in an attempt to show their love. Take the tried-and-true "crate puzzle," for instance. The puzzles in the game are generally clever, and include interesting twists on video game puzzle cliches. Even so, most of the platforming in Lumo is actually quite fun and exhilarating, with mechanics reminiscent not only of classic isometric adventure games, but also older 3D platformers, with some sections that wouldn't feel out of place in the original Crash Bandicoot on PS1.īesides platforming, Lumo also has a strong puzzle-solving element. Infinite lives or no, Lumo's platforming sections can still be annoying, especially the longer ones that have no checkpoints. Those looking for a more traditional, old-school challenge have the option of forgoing these benefits, however. Lumo is able to avoid other frustrations from the genre with additional conveniences, such as gifting players with infinite lives. This control issue is mitigated a bit by Lumo offering multiple control schemes. For example, pressing "up" may make the player character go to the "left" instead of forward like it would in most other games. For those unaware, the isometric layout means that movement is relative to the angle of the room, and where the player character is in that room. Lumo controls exactly like the isometric titles of the past, which can make some of the trickier platforming sections a nightmare. It seems likely that gamers used to modern conveniences will find Lumo especially frustrating, starting with its control scheme. To his credit, it does seem as though Noyce has nailed a modern take on the genre, but having its roots in decades-old game design serves as both Lumo's primary defining feature as well as a source of some of its more frustrating moments. This isometric style is virtually unheard of in gaming in this day and age, and that is part of the reason why Noyce, formerly of Ruffian Games, decided to create Lumo in the first place. This odd and out of place opening sequence doesn't leave one with a positive first impression of Lumo, but Crackdown 2 developer Gareth Noyce mostly makes up for it when players get to the actual game, which is an isometric arcade adventure throwback in the style of Knight Lore and Head Over Heels. Lumo begins with players in control of a poorly animated male or female adolescent, who is then seemingly sucked into a magical video game. Lumo is a charming throwback to the isometric arcade adventure games of the 1980s, but is held back by its short length and some frustrating platforming sections. All are great moments and important stepping stones. Margaret Cho in All-American Girl is the first that comes to mind. True, there have been more high-profile landmarks. Who knew that a charming family show about a mother-daughter duo in the small fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut a show that overcame dismal ratings only to become the WB's second highest-rated series a show that, before Arrested Development, obliterated all competition when it came to fast-talking dialogue and densely-packed pop culture references – who knew that this show would also become one of the most notable milestones for Asian Americans in the media in the last few decades. And it's not until we are able to step back and evaluate the bigger picture that we realize – in the end, it's the subtleties that pack the most punch.Įven from the perspective of an avid watcher of the show, Gilmore Girls' influence on society's perceptions of Asian Americans as in-depth, three-dimensional characters was something that had, for the most part, flown under the radar. Often times, it's the things we don't notice and take for granted that have the greatest influence. The black cat with the devil eyes you have to pretend doesn't freak you out because you're convinced it senses fear. The friendship that you suddenly realize is rare and more special than you had ever imagined. Helen Pai, Keiko Agena, and Emily Kuroda helped make it happen. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino was just trying to find a funny story to tell, and as a byproduct, a door was creaked open. No token characters, no racial identity issues, just people who light up the crazy world we live in. Over these past six seasons of "Gilmore Girls," viewers have gotten a glimpse of what Asian Americans on television can be.
